The Auto Black Book Is Not The Last Word When It Comes To Vehicle Price
People put lots of stock in the auto Black Book, but there is more to autos than Black Book value. I should know. I’m a used vehicle salesman, which means that I earn my living truthfully appraising and selling autos for their value.
It is imperative to know the automotive Black Book rate for used cars, but that is not all there is to it. Based on how well you look after your vehicle, what repairs and modifications you make, and even what weather you live in, the auto Black Book value can be far off. The vehicle can be worth half of what it should be, or worth double the book price for used cars. It all really depends.
Automobile Black Book for used cars is a good estimate, but it is just that. People look at the automotive Black Book like it is the Holy Bible. If they can find a vehicle that is 300 dollars below the auto Black Book value, they think they have gotten a good deal. If they find a vehicle that is just a couple hundred dollars over it, they will not even give it some thought. What they do not realize is that the more expensive vehicle may be more expensive for a reason.
No matter what the auto Black Book says, if you change your oil frequently, drive your vehicle carefully and slowly, and live in a local climate without harsh winters, it may well be worth more than the listed used vehicle value. Similarly, a fairly new vehicle can be so worn down that the auto Black Book value is a joke. It is going to be worth barely a small percentage of what the book says it’s worth. Even if it looks great on the outside, it will be worn out on the inside. Truthfully, the auto Black Book value is a good place to start looking, but it is not the full story. Only a competent and qualified technician can tell you the real facts about the vehicle that you are looking at.
Automobile Black Book, after all, tells you how likely a certain make is to keep its worth and continue running, but it does not tell you anything about any particular vehicle. Only a detailed inspection, both inside and out, can determine that. I do not mean that you should look at it carefully. I mean that you should have a technician check out the motor, the wheels, the shocks, the brake pads, and all of the other imperative parts.
