Catholic Church Health Care Reform

Messori Is Troubled That Regardless Of What The Vatican Commission Decides (Pro, Con, Or Wait And See) Many Good Catholics Will Be Exceedingly Disappointed .

Lately, famed journalist and writer and the “most translated Catholic writer in the world,” Vittorio Messori voiced his concern over Medjugorje. Messori is concerned that regardless of what the Vatican commission decides (pro, con, or do nothing and see) many good Catholics will be terribly disappointed .

“Whatever will be the decision of the Holy See, the damage will be harsh. If the Global Commission of Investigation, presided over by Cardinal Camillo Ruini, will end up governing on the non-authenticity of the apparitions, if it seemed to make a statement of deceit, misunderstanding, perhaps of cheating, for pastoral care it’d be a disaster”, Vittorio Messori explains his position in Tracce.

Vittorio Messori with Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger in the mid-1980s when Messori interviewed the Cardinal for the influential book “The Ratzinger Report”. Twenty-five years after, as Pope Benedict XVI, the German prelate ordered an investigation on Medjugorje by means of a world commission whose last end result leaves Messori with some stresses

“I have met and continue to meet so many folk who’ve changed and for whom Medjugorje is the centre of their experience of religion : What would you say to them? It’s an illusion, you’ve been the victim of a hoax? It would be a scandal because of the grandeur of the phenomenon of the last 30 years”.

“But if the ruling turns out otherwise, it would still be a significant problem. Canon Law states the local normal, the Bishop is responsible for the investigation of the truth or non-truth of these cases. And it’s known that in the case of Medjugorje, the 2 bishops (Pavao Zanic and his inheritor, Ratko Peric, ed) have expressed themselves strongly and without delay against the authenticity of the apparitions. Zanic even called it “the best sting in the history of the Church”, Vittorio Messori continues.

He’s indisputably correct given the level of anger and anger that is engendered by both sides in the Medjugorje phenomenon. It also appears complete that regardless of what the Vatican ultimately rules (if it rules,) the issues will continue.

Those adamant in their disbelief (and under no moral requirement to ever believe) will continue in that skepticism even in the face of a positive governing.

For some of those so attached to the Medjugorje phenomenon, even a negative governing may not not satisfy them or bind them. We unfortunately have seen this before with other supposed apparitions.

But the danger of schism over this issue is minimal. In fact , this is only a transient problem isn’t it? At the end of the day the thing that may work out the Medjugorje problem is Medjugorje itself.

Michael Brown has a quote from Ivan Dragicevic, one of the purported seers.

“Many folk ask me if Our Woman has ever discussed the second coming of Jesus?” he said. “No. Has Our Woman discussed the end of the world? No. Our Lady hasn’t come due to that. So many ask, what does Our Lady say? What do you talk, with her every day? We talk a great deal. And trust me, if we had 24 hours, we might miss some minutes. But one day when the time comes, when some things get revealed, you’ll see why the apparitions are such a very long time and why every day. Later we are going to understand some things. Later our eyes will be opened. When we see physical changes that are going to happen in the world. This is so vital to understand. I’m not going to tell you the strategies! (laugh). The time in front of us is the time of great responsibility.” People come in Medjugorje, they looking for Medjugorje accommodations just for looking for answers here.

That is it, isn’t it? Either the “secrets” come to fruition over the following 30 years or so , or they don’t. Either they do or they do not. Period. That is the final answer.

Almost all of the seers are now in their late 40s. One can moderately expect that during the following couple of decades that a number of them might even give up the ghost. One of the seers is supposed to, at the delegated time, provide the secrets to a priest for prayer and revelation days before they happen. Either this happens or it doesn’t.

It is for this straightforward reason that I don’t see why such a commission has been elected this duty. If there were apparent heresies and crime, the Vatican would have and should have let the local ordinaries disapproval stand. That did not happen so I can just say that that this is not the case. If it is not, why not leave it be? It’ll work itself out eventually . What’s to be gained by making an attempt to rule on it now 30 years after the fact when another 30 years will likely answer the question definitively?

One way or the other, the truth about Medjugorje will be made public. Medjugorje itself will see to that. It just requires patience. We have waited 30 years already, why not wait another 30,as reported tagza.com?
