Brian Was A Graduate Of Both North College And Holy Spirit School And Brian Was The Most Courageous And Inspiring Young Man This Writer Has Ever Met.
Brian’s Walk
This Saturday, July nine you are invited to take part in Brian’s Family Walk beginning at 9:30 a.m. At the St. Thomas the Apostle Church parking lot. The yearly event funds scholarship money for local youth to attend Catholic high schools. This year $4,000 got given to four graduates of the North Middle School to attend Holy Spirit High School . Who was Brian Woods and why do we honour his memory?
Brian was an alumni of both North School and Holy Spirit High-school. Brian was the most bold and inspirational young man this writer has ever met. Hopefully, a short recap of Brian’s extraordinary bravery in life will inspire others to do not ever give up hope and to be successful in overcoming grief.
Brian beats leukemia
Brian Woods contracted leukemia at age five. The entire community of Collings Lake led by the pastor of the Catholic church took part in the first Brian’s Walk about 34 years ago to wish and pull in cash for the hospital charges. The disease replied to treatment and went into remission. Brian’s story received much media coverage.
The killer disease returned more than a year later and treatment was reinstated. Then without human explanation, it vanished. When the doctor re-examined Brian, he found no evidence of the illness and said to the elders to stop treatment. The parents didn’t tell him that they had stopped the medicine months previous when they knew that a healing had taken place after Brian attended a Catholic healing service and the sympton’s disappeared.
Brian had beaten leukemia to the amazement of the medical profession. However , his body was extremely weakened by the illness and the treatment.
Brian defeats bacterial spinal meningitis
Brian later contracted another perilous disease, bacterial spinal meningitis. His folks was called to the hospice and told he wouldn’t survive the night. Brian’s mummy said to the doctor that she wouldn’t accept this. The family prayed all evening. Brian survived the night and beat the deadly illness, again defying medical explanation.
Brian then underwent a long operation to have a steel rod placed in his back.
Brian loses movement, though not hope and religion
Following graduation from Holy Spirit crisis again struck. Brian’s body was so weakened that he lost the use of his hands, arms and legs. There had been not a lot more medically that might be done for Brian. The insurance company would no longer carry on providing therapy as there wasn’t progress nor any medical hope for recovery since the muscles had wasted. But the Woods family continued to live on hope and prayer.
Martin Sheen carries Brian to the top of the mountain in Medjugorje.
Brian and his very religious family decided that he would go with his brother to Medjugorje in Croatia, a location of purported apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary on a mountain in a remote area of the former Yugoslavia.
Brian’s brother Dr. Lance Woods met his beloved the crippled brother plane. The two proceeded on the long strenuous trip to Medjugorje. At the foot of the Cross Mountain Lance heard a man speaking English and asked for his help. The man was Martin Sheen. Dr. Woods and megastar Glaze carried Brian up the rough mountain in a special chair. The young man who couldn’t walk had overcome another major challenge by reaching the top of the mountain with assistance from his brother, Martin Sheen and the requests of the family. This account of the story was carried worldwide last year on the internet site Spirit Daily.com and was broadcast on the radio show “As the Spirit Leads.” Following his trip to Medjugorje more miracles commenced to occur, writes tagza.com.

The Five Heartbeats – 15th Anniversary Special Edition (Full Screen) $3.70 Few things can be more noble than a wholehearted effort to tell the story of black secular music in America, especially through the eyes of a mid-20th century rhythm-and-blues vocal group breaking through race barriers to popular success. Comedian and filmmaker Robert Townsend’s The Five Heartbeats (1991) is one such ambitious effort. If its story frequently sags under epochal burdens, the film … |
