Churchill Downs Kentucky Derby Museum

What Louisville KY Is Famous For

Some areas of the Ohio river are very conducive to supporting life, this is why the land where Louisville, Kentucky is built on has been home to more ancient settlers. The city that we now know and love is settled at the falls of the Ohio river. Col. George Rogers Clark of the American Revolutionary war is the founding father of this town.

With 150 soldiers, Col. Clark conducted his campaign against the British in Illinois Country. Col. Clark and his Illinois Regiment set out from Redstone with 80 civilians to start out as settlers. The settlers functioned more like camouflage for Col. Clark.

As a tourist, there is a lot of stuff to do in Louisville.  It is home to the Kentucky Derby which is the Formula 1 of horseracing. Located in Churchill Downs, tourists can go through a tour of the interactive museum and the grounds itself. Even for those who are not interested in racing, the interactive museum provides a lot of amusement and entertainment. Kids can enjoy the video game version of the horse race with jockey clothes and pretend horses. They can even design their own jockey clothes.

Aside from Churchill Downs, Louisville is home to the Louisville Slugger Museum. You can see the bats used in Major League Baseball being made here. In the museum tour, you will get to see the whole process from wood cores becoming full bats, to stickering and dipping, up until wood burning. At the end of the tour, you can get a mini-bat souvenir.

Educational museums that can be found in Louisville are the Frazier Museum of History and Kentucky Science Museum. The Frazier Museum is home to the Royal Armories USA. It tells the English history through armors and weapons. From the early Celts to the Romans, up to the medieval times and right up to the founding North American Colonies, you can bear witness to history.  Aside from visual displays, there are other items that need to be handed out. The hands on activities in the Kentucky Science museum are intended for kids from 5 to 14.

And after a long day of touring, it’s time to hit some Louisville bars. What’s famous about bars in Louisville KY is the Urban Bourbon Trail which is a collection of citywide Louisville bars which serve at least 50 different kinds of Bourbon. The best bourbon bars in the world are all here. The nightlife in Louisville bars includes the hottest dance clubs and some musical and sports bars.
