Explaining The Holy Scripture Through Sermons
In Christianity, worship services include homily. Homily is a commentary after a scripture has been read. In the Roman Catholic Church which the priest discusses topic related to the scripture is called homily which is also the same as the sermon. Sermon refers to conversation between the clergy or pastor and the audience. The pastor/preacher discussed topics in relation to the scriptures and how it is being applied to reality.
There are several types of Sermon. Every sermon has specific topic depending on the audience and the occasion. Among these are the most common sermons used by preachers and clergy, the Topical sermon discuss certain topic, issues and special concerns. Liturgical sermon explains the liturgy, narrative sermon which often tell a story or stories. Illuminative sermon uses religious questions or topics and connect it to the present practice or festivities.
Sermons and Homilies are interrelated to preaching and religious works. Basically sermon is to explain the Holy Scripture and how to apply it in our life. Example in a wedding, the priest or pastor will give a Marriage Sermon (topical sermon) intended to give advice and guidance to the couple. Sermon given should encourage both the husband and wife to work together for the success of their marriage. The couple should truly understand the sanctity of marriage.
However, delivering the sermon may be presented in the lighter mode. Cracking jokes which are very much related to the couple's personality such as their likes and dislikes can also be discussed. Sermon taken or associated from the bible passage and religious rites is one way of presenting it effectively. Marriage scripture that centers about love and relationship and how it endures all crises during the marriage union is also very important.
Baptist church offers bi-weekly and weekly worship services.
