Outreach

Relief for people affected by earthquakes and poverty
As a United Methodist church, we are connected with the work of the United Methodist Church around the world.  Through United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), we respond to emergencies and empower development.  If you wish to help survivors of the Haitian earthquake or any disaster, please follow this link to make a contribution.  One hundred percent of your donation will be used to help Haitians through UMCOR.   secure.gbgm-umc.org/donations/umcor/donate.cfm  UMCOR is known as an agency that continues to work in an area for many years after disaster occurs.  Costs for the administrative work of UMCOR is covered by a special offering in March called "One Great Hour of Sharing."

The Social Justice group of Living Spirit United Methodist Church continues to work for more equitable access to health care by participating in events, including those sponsored by ISAIAH.  The group has recently begun Anti-racism training as well.

TEAM (Tell Everyone About Miracles) Tutoring/Mentoring provides one-on-one tutoring for Minneapolis students in grades 3-6 during the school year.  Students must be referred by their school.  TEAM tutoring meets Wednesday evenings October-May and includes a meal, individual tutoring and an introduction to a wide variety of careers through the "World of Work" presentation.

Wednesday Night suppers -- A free, community meal is offered every Wednesday night from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall, 4501 Bloomington Ave. S.  Check the calendar on this website for menus (subject to change.)

Members of this congregation are encouraged to respond to opportunities, as they feel God is calling them.  Other projects supported through Living Spirit UMC include missionaries (through the work of Women's Division, with money raised by our local unit of United Methodist Women); gifts for residents of Walker Methodist Health Center; support for Simpson Housing Services and the families and individuals it serves; food shelves at Simpson UMC, Joyce UMC and Sabathani Center; the work of TRUST ecumenical group in south Minneapolis; Cooperative Adult Ministries (CoAM); and other projects as need arises.
